Training Forum – Staying “in the know” Nov 14, 2018

Completed Nov 14, 2018:  Webinar – Best Practices for Migrating Big Data Workloads to AWS

AWS November 2018 Tech Talks Series:

The presentation focused on migrating data from an on-prem cluster…and provided good explanations as to the directions to consider:

– Research and determine the workloads of the applications and determine the correct AWS services for the task.

– Data store recommendations explained to cut costs to migrate.

– Amazon S3 Tips on partitioning, file compression and file formats to reduce costs as well as other benefits.

– File Formats / External Hive Metastore functionalities.

– Architecture, pricing research, instance sizes and clustering types, Node types.

– Auto Scaling benefits…

My Take –

The tech talk presented a lot of AWS options and services. There are opportunities to scale only the resources needed, as well as scaling up and down, versus having servers hanging out idle waiting for some action…

As with any type of infrastructure movement, the best practice here is to outline and research ALL aspects for a successfully working deployment.
